There is a great deal of lead up work that guides an artist towards a finished work. Often when we view an exhibition, movie, or listen to a piece of music, we do not experience the incredible behind-the-scenes work that has been instrumental in reaching the summit. I often replicate elements of works by other artist, not for the purpose of creating copies, but to understands how certain techniques were achieved. I also produce painting studies to practice portraits, landscapes and composition, to conduct colour tests, examine painting effects and test brushes or painting surfaces. There is no limit to what painting studies can do to improve knowledge and experience. On this page I will show some of my painting studies to give a greater understanding of the processes behind each work.
