Jedika on the Moon

Illumination – pen and mixed media on Illustration board, 2016 (29cmx19cm) – available

…My art is going to the Moon!

The last destination that I could ever imagine in my wildest dreams will soon become a reality.

Renowned Physicist, inventor and award-winning writer, Dr Samuel Peralta, has been working on a unique project that is, quite simply, out of this world.

A time-capsule carrying the creative works of 1200 artists, writers and one AI-poet have been placed into an Astrobotic Peregrine Lunar lander. The Astrobotic Peregrine will land on the Northern-Eastern face of the moon on a surface named, Lacus Mortis.

My involvement began back in 2016, when a noted American artist, Steven Daluz selected and curated four of my drawings for the ‘100 Great Drawings’ edition in the Poets/Artist Magazine, published by Didi Menendez. By a stroke of luck this magazine issue was picked up by Dr Peralta and downloaded onto a microSD card and encapsulated in a special DHL MoonBoxTM.

Dr Peralta quoted “…our hope is that future travelers who find this capsule will discover some of the richness of our world today,” Dr. Peralta said. “These works on the Moon speak to the idea that, despite wars and pandemics and climate upheaval, humankind found time to dream, and time to create art.”

My artworks will also be part of a record-breaking journey to the moon. This launch will not only be the first commercial mission to the moon in history, but it will also mark the first lunar mission to lift off from American soil since the Apollo missions over 50 years ago.

The United Launch Alliance Vulcan Centaur rocket, that carries my drawings is scheduled to land on the moon in early 2022.

I am honoured and humbled to receive this incredible gift from Dr Samuel Peralta, and forever grateful to be a part of this once in a lifetime opportunity bringing our art to the Moon.
